in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee

Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and
he shall bring it to pass." Psalm 37:3-5

A Mountain Top Adventure!!

It was about 5:00 - 5:30am. The sun had not yet risen. I decided to get up, even though Dad’s summoning call had not yet come. I needed to help mom get breakfast ready for the team. We (all but mom and the three SCH little boys) were taking the team to a very small Baptist Church about ten minutes from our house and we needed to leave by 9:00. After breakfast (which was served at 8:00) we were ready to leave. So we loaded up everyone in the back of our truck, and headed out.
Church went well. It was loud and crazy; typical for a Haitian church, but it was good. At ten after 11:00 church ended. We returned home to get some snacks, and water before heading up the mountain. Dad wanted to show the team around Haiti a little bit, and this was the only day. So, off we went up Goat Mt. The team, Jeremy and Josh in the back, and Dad and I in the front.
We were more than half way up the mountain, and Dad said to me, “ I’ve lost the clutch again, I have no clutch, and I hardly have any tools with me!” So we stopped the truck, and Dad told the team what the problem was. Mr. Jim Elliott (one of the men on the team) was a mechanic; so he got out and looked underneath the truck. While he was doing that Mr. Peters led the rest of the team in prayer, and asked the Lord to help him and Dad to be able to fix the truck so we could get home.
After seeing that there was nothing that he could do, Mr. Elliott said. “ Well, let’s have everyone get out and see if us guys can get this thing turned around. If we can get it turned around I think we can make it back home.”
So here we were, all 13 of us way up on the mountain, in what seemed to be a hopeless case. I have said it before, and I’ll say it again. With GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! We serve the GOD of the IMPOSSIBLE! All the guys worked together, and were able to turn the truck around. Thankfully there was no traffic until they got the truck turned around. PTL!
On the way down, I rode in the back with the team. Mr. Elliott drove and Dad rode in the front with him. So all of us girls got in the back, and the guys pushed it to get it started, and then jumped in. Then we drove, or more coasted, down the mountain. When we neared the bottom Mr. Elliot could feel the clutch coming back!! PTL! And so we made it home!

For the devotional the following day Mr. Elliot read from Matthew 28:16-20
“ Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Then he talked about how God had brought us off the mountain yesterday, about how he didn’t know until later that afternoon when his wife told him, that the team had prayed that he and Dad would be able to fix the truck. How that even on an Island far from home, God is with us, and He answers prayer!

So that is just one of our Haiti adventures! Yes, life is an adventure, but God is good!!
So come join the Schmidt family for a week or so, and live one of Haiti’s wild, crazy, thrilling, but most of all life changing adventures!!
                 Your ever adventurous writer!
